Easter 1916 LO: To explore the theme of change in Easter 1916 Initial Ideas: “All Changed, changed utterly” What does Yeats refer to here? What does Yeats believe has changed? Why is there repetition? Why does he use the word “utterly”?

Change: “All Changed, changed utterly” Yeats acknowledges that Irish history will be forever transformed by the events of Easter Rising. ‘Utterly’: adverb to mean completely and without qualification. Signifies the significance of the violence and political conflict on both Yeats and Ireland. Change to Ireland at beginning of new century (emerging middle classes he despised) A sense of admiration of the changes initiated by the IRB A sense of regret at the changes brought about Change brought about by revolution
