2 Purpose, Content and Value The Purpose of the MLC Library is to provide members with lean training material and recommended knowledge resources for lean transformations occurring in Michigan public, private and educational institutions. The Content of the MLC Library: 1. Training material (and associated templates) 2. Lists of recommended readings such as books, articles, websites, games/simulations/exercises and videos and video clips The MLC Library is valuable to members because: The material has been vetted by lean professionals based on proven source material It provides a consistent language and approach The training material is a benefit of membership The training material is a holistic and contains ~80% of materials needed for your lean journey

4 MLC Library: Training Material Foundational Modules Module*Learning Objectives 1Lean Overview Be able to explain the definition, history, purpose and benefits of lean thinking. 2Lean Culture Be able to explain what a lean culture is and how to begin the path to achieving it by analyzing your organization’s current and future culture. 3Lean Leadership Be ale to articulate your role as a leader in a lean culture. Develop a self action plan for your role as a leader including role modeling, coaching and developing people. 4Value Stream Mapping Explain the different kinds of waste and learn how to properly create a Current State Map and a Future State Map. 5Problem Solving Methods Learn how to use formal Root Cause Analysis Methodology which includes several tools and approaches. 6 Kaizen (Continuous Improvement) Be able to explain the concept of a “kaizen” mentality, learn what a Kaizen Event is and how to conduct one. 7Quality Methods Learn about the quality methods most often associated with a Lean Transformation and how and when to use them. 8Standard Work Understand the different types of standard work, the methodology behind creating them and how standard work is best used. Articulate how to apply it to your organization and your value stream specifically. *Includes all templates needed
