Using the Projector and Interactive Whiteboard to Enhance Instruction Interactive Tools to Enhance Instruction iProject Interactive Session 2
Focusing Questions How can we use interactive tools to support and enhance our instruction? How can we use the different tools provided with the interactive whiteboard software?
Instruction
Framing Our Work Today we will learn how to use our Smart NoteBook Software. It is preloaded on your mobile device. If it is not preloaded, it must be installed. You can access the software at the Smart Technologies, Inc. Web site.Smart Technologies, Inc.
Teaching Let’s watch this short video about the Interactive Whiteboard. Notice a few things: >Where the instructor stands. >How he interchanges the pen and eraser tools. >How he uses the Interactive Whiteboard rather then his computer. Play video from the Smart Technologies, Inc. Education page.Smart Technologies, Inc. Education
Teaching Let’s take a look at some of the tools that are installed in NoteBook. Notice the four options: >Screen Shade >Spotlight >Magnifier >Calculator How can we use these tools in our instruction?
Teaching The Camera Screen shot Icon: The first button selects only what you assign it to select. It is automatically captured and placed on a new page. The second button selects a FULL screen. Not just the page but a complete full screen. It automatically was captured and place in a new page. The third button selects only the page you are working on. It captures it and automatically places it in a new page.
Teaching Why are there three capture tools? Why would you need these?
Teaching The eraser. Three options of levels of thickness. Able to erase on penning. Unable to erase on pages with a screen shot. A middle school teacher can really benefit from this time saving tool, as he/she might teach multiple classes the same lesson. Would only need to write your focus of the day once.
Guided Practice Open Notebook Software. Locate: >Screen Shade >Spotlight >Magnifier >Calculator >Screen Capture >Eraser >Penning
Guided Practice First four tools are unavailable because they need to hooked up to a board, however, you can still create lessons and add these once you connect. Three other tools which are useful: >Text Box – this allows you to type. >Shapes – This allows you to insert shapes. >Lines – This allows you to insert lines or rays.
Work Time
Getting Started Begin to create a minimum six page lesson using Notebook software. Use the tools taught in this lesson in the first few slides. Suggestion: Make a “Welcome Back to School” lesson that you can project and use on the first day of school.
Work Time Participants are working independently to create their lesson. These lessons will be projected during the final session.
