Who will help bring about the change? Involving under 48’s in leadership

Meudon Hotel Video – hotel inspector Video – hotel inspector

It’s not what I would have done – what I did very successfully for 40 odd years

We live in a hot paced world where innovation is desperately needed to stay ahead in the game. Wise companies will put Xers in the hot seats where they’ll be allowed to ‘do the impossible.’ They’ll need to be allocated new job titles like head innovator, the cannibaliser and director of story telling. Mind the Gap p275

How can we get under 48’s involved in leadership and decision making in the local church? What needs to change to facilitate that?

Worship Sunday worship is not shaped for those under 48 Too predictable & slow Too much formality Too little movement Too little participation Not a multi-sensory experience Not directly relevant to life Not a high expectation of seeing God at work

Worship Can we change what we do when we share together? OR Do we need to develop different styles of worship in different settings

We are in an era where planting new kinds of churches for our generation will be essential if some people are to have any experience of Christian community. We recommend worship with a variety of menu in a variety of venue to be accessible to different groups of people. Church Without Walls Report 2001

Do we change the “main event” or create “fringe events?” What can we change in the main event? How do we change it?

Is changing worship the answer? Perhaps …. [But] the key to change is to change values and beliefs before behaviour. Reaching people under 40 while keeping people over 60 Edward Hammett

Developing holistic work with under 48’s. What kind of outreach events, discipleship groups, pastoral care is needed?

Pointers on the way Our faith needs to be real – people need to see that it “works” What we talk and share about needs to be relevant to life

Cross-cultural evangelism is not about changing the cultural clothing of an explanation of Jesus’ death but finding which parts of the whole story are “good news” within each culture and starting from these to explore the rest. Mission Shaped Evangelism Steve Hollinghurst

Pointers on the way Our faith needs to be real – people need to see that it “works” What we talk and share about needs to be relevant to life It takes time to earn trust

Postmoderns aren’t interested in hearing a cognitive approach.. They desire to connect heart to heart not head to head. Reaching people under 40 while keeping people over 60 Edward Hammett

Even with the best planning and research, change is a risk. It may attract younger people, it may not.. Transitioning puts heavy demands on church leaders Reaching people under 40 while keeping people over 60 Edward Hammett
