Appointments can be made through the office or directly with the teacher. Please let us know what it is concerning so that we can be as helpful as possible. We can only take very quick, short messages as the children line up. Children need to learn to take responsibility for delivering homework/ letters and looking after their own things.
The 5 Ws give us a framework our RE inspections. Welcome (come) – We come together in welcome. Word (talk) – We talk together as a 'word of God’ community. Witness (work) – We look at our school mission statement and work together as a witness community. Welfare (walk) – We walk together as a welfare community. Worship (pray) – We pray together as a worship community.
Your child is rewarded for following the rules by being given a Happygram. When 10 have been collected they can be brought into school. A special sticker is awarded at our Friday Good News Assembly. Good News Certificates are given for extra effort. We also have a kindness book. A trophy is awarded to one child in each class each week, Stickers are given out in class. Head teacher’s certificates are awarded each half term.

Children placed in an appropriate groups according to assessments carried out. Children are assessed every few weeks and may move between groups.
Beat That Test- your child needs to know from memory the addition facts and later on the times tables facts that we send home. CLIC test- 10 questions to help assess children’s understanding of work being covered in their group.
This will be given on Wednesday to be returned by Monday the following week. Your child will be asked to learn number facts or times tables, consolidate work done in their group, or apply what they know. Please keep revising and testing work from previous weeks.
The children are given the learning intention for lessons. When we mark books we highlight the learning intention in green if they have understood, in yellow if theky are not fully secure and in red if they are unsure. We ask the children to self assess if they feel confident in their work with a smiley, straight or quizzical face.
Read Write Inc-learning and practising phonics, reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar, comprehension phonic assessments every 4 weeks Talk for Writing-learning a story as a class to help children have language patterns engrained in their memories; planning and writing together to show the children how to write well; the children writing on their own with clear information about the kind of language and punctuation they should be using (steps to success). In our marking and feedback we also want the children to think for themselves about what they have done well and what they could do better.
Some children are daily readers and read with our TAs. Other children read their library books every day in school and change the books themselves. Reading and discussion need to be part of the daily routine at home. Please ensure that you sign your child’s reading record book as we look for this before we allow them to change their books.
Let your child see you read and read to them Tell your child about interesting things that you have read in newspapers, magazines and books. Visit the local library and bookshops. Sit with your child every night and engage with them in their reading. Discuss with them about what they have read in the book. Ask them to retell the story. Talk about interesting words and identify words or interesting phrases that they might use in their writing.
Every Wednesday the children will be given spellings to learn for the next Wednesday. The spellings practise a particular sound (or different ways of spelling one sound) as well as the key words that Key Stage One children need to learn. Please keep practising them during the week. Keep the book in your child’s reading bag until the following Wednesday. Each half term we also ask the children to do a book review. We want the children to focus on writing in sentences, using conjunctions and applying all of the writing skills they have learnt in class. Learning Logs
Why Learning Log? They are an opportunity for children to extend and consolidate learning in the classroom. They encourage all children to be creative and independent. They encourage children to be actively involved in their work and take pride in it. Learning Logs encourage partnership between home and school. As Learning Logs are personalised there is no right or wrong way to approach a task. They give children ownership of their work.
Our topic is Who am I? You could- find out about your body create a model or a picture write a poem or story (we have been working on Little Red Riding Hood) find out about the place where you live- draw maps etc. Please complete by- Friday October 9th
