Beginning Chorus 2015

Grading Scale: 1. Singing Quizzes 20% 2. Technique Quizzes 20% 3. Notebook 20% 4. Participation 20% 5. Concerts 20%

 We had two full time Music teachers who had both retired.  Only one full time music teacher replaced them and we’re very lucky to still have her due to all the budget cuts in recent years.  Chorus was going to be cut and they asked if I would continue the program in 2010, which I will be continuing this semester.  Scheduling students has had some setbacks but we are ready to begin now.

1.Singing Quizzes: ◦ One quiz every five weeks. 2.Technique Quizzes: ◦ Based on state music standards. ◦ I give them worksheets to study. ◦ One quiz every five weeks. 3.Notebook and Binder Grade: ◦ Notebook should contain all music notes from music appreciation curriculum. ◦ Binder should contain copies of all music for performance and should be tabbed for ease of access.

4.Participation in class: ◦ Students follow teachers directions. ◦ Students use class time productively. 5.Participation in concerts: ◦ Worth 20% of the grade. ◦ Students who do not participate will not have a higher grade than a “B”. ◦ Prior notification is required unless there is a doctors note for severe illness.

◦ Black Binder ◦ Zipper Pouch ◦ Blank CD’s (for practice) ◦ Highlighter ◦ Pencil ◦ Tabs and Subject Dividers ◦ I have provided notebook for note taking in class. Supplies

 Winter Concert ◦ A selection of winter season songs  Spring ◦ A possible small Musical Theatre production ◦ Will not be performed in MPR ◦ Students in my current class will have priority

 There is currently no Advanced Chorus class being offered in 7 th or 8 th grade.  Once funds become available it will be up to the full time music teacher if she wants to have an auxiliary class.  I will give my students priority placement for next year if the opportunity becomes available.

 SAVE THE DATE: December 9 is the evening performance date. Please set aside for the Winter Concert  Performance recommended attire: ◦ Boys: white dress shirt and black slacks ◦ Girls may wear the same as boys or a black dress. ◦ Dress code must be followed. (Not too short, no spaghetti straps) ◦ Comfortable shoes are recommended since they will be standing for performance.
