ASSESSMENT WITHOUT LEVELS

Baseline Assessment KS1 There has been an introduction of a baseline in reception, from which progress at the end of KS2 will be measured. This will happen in the first few weeks of the pupils starting school. It is an electronic test and schools must choose from a list of providers. The first cohort of children to be assessed against the baseline will be Year 6 in 2022.

There will be tests in Maths, Reading, Writing and SPAG at the end of Year 6. Pupils will be assessed on a scaled score. Around 100 will be the age related expectation. 100 will equate to roughly a 4b. The floor standard is 85% of pupils to reach 100. End of KS2

Assessing the Children The children will be assessed against KPIs- Key Performance Indicators. These are statements of things your children can or cannot do.

Assessing the Children A maths KPI for Year 3 in maths is: Count from 0 in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100; find 10 or 100 more or less than a given number.

Assessing the Children The Key Performance Indicators are in separated in each year group for Maths and SPAG. For Reading and Writing they are grouped into two year group. Year 3/4 and Year 5/6.

Assessing the Children The Children will be assessed at the following 3 levels B=Beginning P=Progressing E=Embedded

Assessing the Children The new way of assessing focuses on what the children can do, what they need to do next and how they are going to achieve this. Teachers will be constantly assessing what the children can do and then their teaching will reflect what the children need to learn next.

At the Beginning of a Year All the children will be classed as beginning as they have not yet learnt the KPIs for their age. What does this mean? Flute analogy

On Going Assessment The children will have targets in each subject linked to the KPIs or steps of what they need to do to reach the KPIs. These will be stuck in books.

Testing the Children The children will then be tested at the end of the Year.

What are we doing for SEND children? What will we do if the children are working below/above the KPIs for their year group? We need to find out what they can do at the beginning of a year and show progress of what they can do at the end? This child can now do this…

Reporting to Parents At Parents’ Evening you will be told if your child is B=Beginning, P=Progressing or E=Embedded. You will be shown what your child can do and what they need to learn next. Reports will also let you know how the children are achieving against the KPIs and if they are B=Beginning, P=Progressing or E=Embedded. You will be told what your child can do and what they need to learn next.
