H AVISHAM Carol Ann Duffy

H AVISHAM BY C AROL A NN D UFFY Who is Miss Havisham? - Miss Havisham is a fictional character; she appears in the novel ‘Great Expectations’ by Charles Dickens. In the novel, Miss Havisham is a middle aged (in Dickens’ day considered quite elderly) woman who was jilted or ‘dumped’ by her fiancé just before their wedding day. It is something that has left her bitter and angry. Duffy has already adopted the persona of Ann Hathaway, later we will study a poem where she adopts the persona of Mrs Midas. Why do you think she is choosing to do this?
