Tertiary industry workers earn their living in retail trade, service-oriented jobs and government The largest tertiary industry is the business and personal services industry 73.7 % of Canadians work in the Tertiary industry

Tertiary jobs do not produce any raw materials or goods, instead they provide services. While many jobs are unskilled, others such as a teacher or lawyer require training and education

Retail Sector Provides consumers with a wide variety of goods Cars, clothes Ribbon Development- rows of stores side by side on a main street

Strip Malls planned shopping areas are found in newer areas and suburbs advantage is that they offer free parking and more space for retailers than ribbon developments

Regional Malls Pembroke Mall Wide variety of goods and services Facilities such as day care, spas and blood donor clinics, restaurants, movie theatres Big Box Stores Large retail stores that offer a huge volume of goods Because of size and volume these stores can sell products for less

Smaller locally owned stores can not compete with low prices and huge selection offered by the big box stores
