Locking in the Standards in 248

Demonstrates Professional Leadership Fife and Tim show effective writing and speaking while guiding the development of curriculum and instructional materials. We also helped initiate and develop the educational programs presented at the Summer Portfolio Institute.

Demonstrates Knowledge of Content

Professional development days increased our knowledge in the disciplines we were going to teach to the kids during the Institute. Activities that the kids and we learned connected to real world. The heart-rate activity showed the effects of exercise on our pulse. For some, like Zack, other variables played a role in the rate of our heart beat. Our orienteering activity taught the kids and us how to apply the use of angles to real life situations. It also taught us the importance that variance plays in mathematics. If anyone was off in their angle or distance measurements they then found themselves looking for any kind of clue. Right Dana? (Tweet, Tweet)

Designs and Plans Instruction  All activities during the Institute were hands-on kinesthetic types, teaching children through involvement and experience. We designed each lesson to integrate multiple disciplines and intelligences. Here we are working hard.

Creates/Maintains Learning Climate

Assesses and Communicates Learning Results  Most assessment and communication of learning that was taking place occurred as the students participated in the activities. Here are some work samples from the week on display at our Parent Showcase.

Implements/Manages Instruction

Reflects/Evaluates Teaching/Learning  Through our daily reflections we evaluated how our lessons went. By sharing our thoughts and ideas on each day’s lessons we were able to adjust our future lessons. This reflection and reevaluation led to many “colorful” discussions and camaraderie.

Collaborates with Colleagues/Parents/Others

Engages in Professional Development

Demonstrates Implementation of Technology  We took our kids to the computer lab each day. Thanks to the expertise of Carrie and Geoffrey, we were able to expose our kids to programs such as Building Perspective, Hot Dog Stand, Graph Club, and Webbe Book designing.
