Developing a Research Proposal

I. Writing a research proposal A short paragraph A formal, multipage report

A short paragraph  About 75 to 100 words long  The specific topic  The purpose of the paper (to explain, analyze, or argue)  The intended audience (general or specialized)  Your voice as the writer (informer or advocate)  The preliminary thesis statement or opening hypothesis

A formal report  A cover page  An abstract  A purpose statement  A statement of qualification  A review of the literature  A description of your research methods

A formal report A cover page A cover page includes the title of the project, your name, and the person or agency to whom you are submitting the proposal.

A formal report An abstract An abstract summarizes your project in 50 to 100 words.

A formal report A purpose statement A purpose statement includes your rationale for the project, along with your identification of the audience that your work will address and the role you will play as investigator or advocate.
