The Democracy Index The Democracy Index Ranking of state of democracy Ranking of state of democracy, based on 60 indicatores of 5 different categories: electoral processes and pluralism civil liberties functioning of government political partizipation political culture

The Democracy Index The Democracy Index Classification of regime types Full democracies  scores of Flawed democracies  scores of 6 – 7.9 Hybrid regimes  scores of 4 – 5.9 Authoritarian regimes  scores of 0 – 3.9

Methodology For every country the 60 indicatores were answered by experts or public-opinion surveys Missings: survey results from similar countries Dichotomous answers (0 or 1) or three-answer alternative questions (0 or 0,5 or 1)

Methodology To get the index: the sum of all answers within one category, multiplied by ten, divided by the total number of questions within the categoryExceptions: a few very important questions: low score leads to penalty of score sum of their category
