WELCOME! Mrs. Krsolovic Grade 3 Room 201

Teacher’s Bio Starting my 13th year here at Saint Gabriel School Goal – to work together in building confident learners within a fun and positive environment by showing kindness and compassion to one another.

Discipline Policy Monthly Conduct Calendar – Red Binder Behavior Codes + Colors (Absent = 5 points) 1. Green (5 points) 2. Orange (4 points) 3. Yellow (3 points) 4. White (2 points) 5. Red ( 1 point) As of right now, we will master addition and subtraction, which eventually will lead us into the students’ own checkbooks, which then leads to Market Day at the end of the year. Market Day are days when the students individually make their own product to sell to other students (more information to follow). This also connects with Social Studies – the economy!

Snack Time SNACK We will have snack time in the afternoon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We will eat snack in the morning on Wednesdays due of a late lunch. We have an early lunch (10:48 am), so a little snack will help keep our brains focused and energized for completion of the afternoon classes.

Birthday Treats Your child’s birthday is SPECIAL but when we celebrate this special day we will have the treat at snack time. Please bring in or drop off the treat in the morning to the office, so there is little disruption to our valuable teaching and learning time. Any questions please refer to the Handbook/Addendum/Office

Related Arts Classes Our “Specials” are no longer going to labeled as “Specials”. They are referred to as Related Arts Classes. I sent home with the students a “Specials” schedule, but the Related Arts Classes are still the same time and day – just being called something different.

Reading ●We will continue to use the American Reading Program. ● We will complete 2 steps in school, and 2 steps for homework Monday-Thursday. ●Students will be required to read 4 steps over the weekend. (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) ● Reading logs are required to be signed for credit each day. ●We will continue to recognize every 100 steps completed.

Religion Please keep your child’s Bible at home because we have a class set that we will be using. Our class will have a “Prayer Kit” which each student will have the opportunity to take this kit home. The directions will be inside the kit.

Homework The students will have English Simple Solutions each night, Monday – Thursday and there will be a quiz each Friday on 5 lessons. I will have in their assignment notebooks the lessons that will be quizzed on for that week. Each student should review the previous night’s lesson and complete a lesson. The English Simple Solutions is not graded. We will check each lesson the next morning and I will go over all of the answers in class. Please refer and use the Help Pages located in the back of the book. There will be 2 books, 1 for the First Semesters (quarters 1&2) then Second Semester (quarters 3&4). Students will have Math homework each night, and will be assessed on each chapters when mastered. Students will have Reading homework each night – explained in previous slide. It is possible to have some other related assignments to the other subjects.

Homework continued Students should be practicing their Math facts each night. Start off practicing addition and subtraction. The more practicing of the math facts, the quicker we can create and use the checkbooks.

Homework continued Students will write down their assignments in their assignment notebook daily. Please assist your child with his or her homework if they need it but I strongly suggest that you have him or her or them complete the homework on their own. Please initial or sign the assignment notebook to show the student has completed his or her or their assignments.

Math Program We will continue to use the Go Math series. The students will have 1 homework page in the effort to progress in the Common Core each night (Monday through Thursday) reinforcing the learned skill taught in school that day. The lesson is in the same book that the lesson was taught that day. Everything is in the same book, so it is extremely important that your child or children bring this book to and from school.

More Spelling News The Spelling Program that we will be using is called DSA – Developmental Spelling Assessment. This year, we will be using the Developmental Word Study approach in order to teach phonological (phonic features) awareness at a pace that matches the developmental stage of your child or children. The students will be given a list of words to study each week that specifically targets phonetic elements your child needs to master. Your child or children will be assessed on these words each Friday. This will be a total of 10 points (10 words).. Homework for Spelling will consist of any activity from the sheet located in the back of the Red Reading Binder. The homework grade will be a total of 4 points weekly.

Absent Work If you would like missed work to be sent home please call the Students will be given the number of days missed to complete missing work.
