The Strongest One Vocabulary Introduction

Learning Target As a third grader, I should be able to determine the meaning of unknown words using different strategies.

Word Wizards

Say it! decorated

Definition: Something that is decorated is made prettier. Sentence: The room was decorated with balloons and streamers for the birthday party. When are some times throughout the year that we decorate our houses and our classroom?

Say it! symbol

Definition: A symbol is a picture or shape that stands for something else. Sentence: A heart is a symbol for love. Name another symbol and what it stands for.

Say it! darkened

Definition: When something is darkened, it becomes dark or is made darker. Sentence: We walked through the darkened forest. It was spooky and eerie. Why would a room be darkened?

Say it! gnaws

Definition: When a person or an animal gnaws on something, they keep chewing on it. Sentence: The dog gnaws on a bone. Why do you think an animal gnaws on an object?

Say it! securing

Definition: When you are securing something, you are fastening it firmly. Sentence: The girl was securing the button on his jacket. What other things might need securing?
