Update Cycle RFP Closed on September 24 th Image Capture Split Between 2009 and 2011 –Eastern Half of State Will Be Captured during 2009 and Western Half Will Be Captured during 2011 Digital Capture Faster Delivery – Within 6 Months of Acquisition Multiple Upgrade Options –Requested upgrades include resolution upgrades, contours, planimetrics, true orthophotography, color infrared, and off year flights –Vendors were encouraged to submit other upgrade options

/2011 Flight Areas

3 City of Richmond Orthophoto

4 City of Richmond TRUE Orthophoto

5 Virginia Partnership with USDA NAIP 2008 Imagery Acquisition by USDA –“leaf on” summer collection –One meter resolution –True color –~85% coverage for Virginia With Partnership –4 Band color (true color and near infrared) –Improved Accuracy using VBMP Control Pts. –100% coverage

6 Virginia Partnership with USDA NAIP Total NAIP Budget for VA: $740,296 Total provided by Virginia: –VA Department of Forestry: $25,000 –VA Department of Transportation: $25,000 –VA Information Technologies Agency/VGIN: $40,000 plus all VBMP Control Points ($25,000 value) –Total: $90,000 plus control points Without partnership, VA would not have been captured in 2008 due to USDA budget cutbacks

7 NAIP Deliverables Initial Delivery – County Mosaics –Preliminary Format with Limited QA/QC –JPEG 2000 Format –Entire State Has Been Delivered Final Delivery – Quarter Quadrangles –Full QA/QC –GeoTiff Format –Delivery on or before September 30, 2009

9 Using NAIP – Urban Tree Canopy Analysis Virginia Department of Forestry High resolution landcover is integrated with planimetric datasets, such as buildings and roads, to determine the existing Urban Tree Canopy and possible Urban Tree Canopy Leaf on, infra-red photography is essential to accurately identify tree crowns (infra-red NAIP provides this) Collaboration with communities: VDOF provides landcover classification and advice, communities provide GIS data and goal setting process

NAIP Image Near-infrared (Band 4) enhances vegetation Classified Image Using NAIP – Urban Tree Canopy Analysis
