Why BYOD? Informal Survey shows that many HS students already own laptops-cost effective way to take advantage Survey also indicated many use laptops/desktops for homework-laptops better for creation of work at HS Parent Survey- would like to see Laptops Survey of 62 INT. SCHOOLS- 51 have 1:1, 65% are BYOD

Why Laptops? The amount of writing, typing ad internet research at HS increases Ability to multi-task and switch between programmes more important Able to use Flash Based sites, Graph and Data Analysis File storage and transfer

Devices School -Recommend Apple- because we can best support Mac devices Windows OS will function in our environment-school will provide basic support for authentication/log in and printing School has license for Microsoft Office Suite-available August Browser based apps and educational tools eliminates OS compatability Standardised submission methods eg. PDF, JPEG, MP3

Do Parents have to Purchase? Yes We are starting to see laptops as part of regular supplies (pencils, folders) as our authentic learning experiences demand their use- You can select your own device and payment method Toucan offer discount on Apple (approx 14%) Belong to the student-used after ACS for Univ/College Small supply in case forget or being repaired- limited use

How much will students use them? Wil they always be infront of the screen? Emphasis on 'Active Screen Time' not 'Passive' Balanced approach 30-40% per day Based on needs and professionalism of teacher- use best tools available-and best approach ACS will provide support needed for teacher to use technology and explore best practice

Staff Training Already familiar and use technology-is a continual focus of PD at ACS Will provide training in new apps and platforms such as Google Apps For Education (GAFE) Integrationalist will support in class- find browser based solutions to avoid OS conflicts

And Handwriting? Will continue to be incorporated into the teaching at the High School

Security Students can use Lockers Students should have User Password and other Security measures in place

Lost or Damaged Responsibility of student School Insurance does not cover personal belongings Need to take out personal insurance- Most devices come with guarantees and insurance options from sellers/manufacturers

Charging students should make sure it is charged before they come to school school will add extra charging points must use own chargers and cables keep an additional charger in locker (save bringing)? adjust some settings-energy saving

How can Parents Support? Provide the Device Help install Apps and Software if needed Remind students to charge their device Remind them to bring their device Provide protective case
