Tropical storms are known by a variety of names, depending on the area they affect. In the Caribbean they are known as hurricanes; in South East Asia as typhoons; in the Bay of Bengal (Indian Ocean) as cyclones and near Australia as willy-willies. Geography Environmental Hazards A tropical storm is a large, rotating area of very strong winds, clouds, and thunderstorms.
