Pixlr BCC Training By Drew Loker

Online Editing, Benefits Cloud computing is the NEW generation –Sharing edited images quick – not a photoshop replacement, but another tool to use. I like sharing my images…otherwise, what is the point of shooting. –Remote editing photos You don’t have to be at home Still need a computer currently –Currently, free…and no ads –Allows saving of high res photo

Major Features Pretty powerful, for free –Layers –Undo History –Tools Selections – Lasso, Magic Wand Dodge and Burn –Commands and Hot keys Similar to other programs –S to clone to jump –Ctrl + + to zoom in, Spacebar to move around Some differences due to nature of Flash –Also the reason no iPad, yet. Android…yes. –Good tutorials

Sign Up – It’s Free Upper right corner Allows saving to Pixlr Gallery Also –FaceBook –PicasaWeb Open image online by right clicking on image and “Copy Image Location” –Flickr (Yuk!) You can get by with out logging in. –But will need an account to Save even to your computer Open an image online or on your computer

Cloning Tool looks like a rubber stamp –Ctrl Key to sample source area –Click to clone source to destination –Right click to change size and edge

Image Retouching Levels (Ctrl + L) –Move LOWS up a bit Usually no more than 4 to 6 –Move MidTones left or right Adjust to taste, left or right, to find the best contrast. –Usually, move the middle slider to the middle of the exposure peak near the middle. –Adjust HIGHs Avoid clipping whites, like clouds. –In this sample, since there were white clouds, I didn’t adjust it at all.

Resizing, Image Size Preparing for contest –Image Resize –Constrain Proportions on Change only one variable The other variable will update automatically BCC 1800 on longest side GSCC 1024 OR 768 on longest side Width or height may be LESS, but not more than these maximums –Save as…set compression

Resizing, Compression Preparing for contest –Save…set compression –At 1800x1200, 80% quality yields at 455k file, which is PERFECT for BCC Monthly Comp. –For GSCC, increase quality to compensate for the small size. No difference between 95 and 100 –Also, rename your file. NEVER save on top of an original. Use letters to indicate versions. Leave original index number intact.

Layers Composite images – because photography is an ART (unless it is PJ) Open first of your images – KTbvb3CPquQ/TUZILFZsYJI/AAAAAAAAQR4/FGO0zCGH0xg/s1152/DSC_7334.JPGhttps://lh3.googleusercontent.com/- KTbvb3CPquQ/TUZILFZsYJI/AAAAAAAAQR4/FGO0zCGH0xg/s1152/DSC_7334.JPG Go to Layer and open as “New Layer…” – wNQ8vd3wbag/SVRsLSjH5KI/AAAAAAAAE1s/Y4Wb0iyDRfs/s1024/Flag_2536e.jpghttps://lh5.googleusercontent.com/- wNQ8vd3wbag/SVRsLSjH5KI/AAAAAAAAE1s/Y4Wb0iyDRfs/s1024/Flag_2536e.jpg Don’t just paste in a copy of an image…it will create a new layer automatically, but I was not able to edit it. –Erase top layer Magic wand, Lasso, eraser, etc. –Click on Brush Tool to change settings Big, hard brush for larger areas Small, soft brush for getting in close, details

Layers, Options One of the real assets of Photoshop is the layer control…and Pixlr has many of the same options.

Layers, Duplicating Easy way to do selective –Color –Focus (simulate Shallow Depth of Field) Open the image –Right click on layers and duplicate –Click on Background Layer Desaturate –Click on Top Layer Erase all but main item
