Non-Convergence Regions EFF divided between MS in particular: size of their fisheries sector, the number of people in the sector, continuity of the activities

Why have a European Fisheries Fund? Main financial instrument to support the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). It helps to: Promote a sustainable balance between resources and fishing capacity. Strengthen the competitiveness of the sector, including aquaculture. Protect and enhance the environment. Develop fishing communities and improve the quality of life of the people living there.

Axis 1 Mesures for the Adaptation of the Fleet Aid for: Permanent cessation of vessels. Temporary cessation of activities. Investments on board and selectivity. Small-scale coastal fisheries measures. Socio economic measures. Not eligible: Aid for the construction of new vessels. Aid for the increase of fish holds.

Axis 2 Aquaculture, Inland Fishing, Processing and Marketing Support for: Aquaculture Productive investments. Aqua-environmental measures. Public health measures. Animal health measures. Processing and marketing - Productive investments Inland fishing

Axis 2 - DETAILS Aquaculture: Productive investments in aquaculture (art. 29) Diversification towards new species Implementation of environmentally friendly aquaculture methods Production of species with good market prospects Maintenance of traditional aquaculture Protection of farms from wild predators Lifelong learning

Axis 2 - DETAILS Aquaculture: Aqua-environmental measures (art. 30) for compensations for: Environmentally-friendly farming Participation in EMAS scheme Conversion towards organic farming Sustainable aquaculture compatible with the environmental constraints resulting from the designation of Natura 2000 areas

Axis 2 - DETAILS Aquaculture : Public health measures (art. 31): Compensation to mollusc farmers for temporary suspension of harvesting due to contaminations Aquaculture : Animal health measures (art. 32): Aid for the eradication of diseases in aquaculture under the terms of Decision 90/424/EEC

Axis 3 Measures of Common Interest Principles: Measures that serve the purpose of a larger group of beneficiaries. Cannot be normally supported by the private sector. Help to meet the objectives of the CFP. Promotes: Organisations acting on behalf of producers or recognised organisations.

Axis 3 Measures of Common Interest Eligible measures: Collective actions. Protection and development of aquatic fauna and flora. Investment in fishing ports, landing sites and shelters. Development of new markets and promotion campaigns Pilot projects. Modification for reassignment of fishing vessels.

Axis 4 Sustainable development of fisheries areas Objectives: Tackle socio-economic problems. Maintain economic prosperity and jobs. Promote the quality of the coastal environment. Preferred fisheries areas: Low population density. Small fishing Communities. Fisheries in decline.

Axis 4 Sustainable Development of Fisheries Areas Implementation follows bottom–up approach: Setting up of fisheries local area groups (FLAGS). Which develop and implement a local development strategy. Support for: Strengthening the competitiveness of the areas. Diversification of activities and jobs. Adding value to fisheries products. Small fisheries and tourism infrastructure and services. Protecting the environment and heritage. Providing Inter-regional and trans-national cooperation among groups. Training.
