Fotki provides; Member Profile Search Options Blogging and Forums Digital Photo and Video Sharing Security and Privacy to its user.

Membership consists of 3 options; Free account Premium account Trial account *Members can create their own profile pages and provide information as much as they want by the privacy settings.

*In fotki.com you can use search options and can find your friends *Users can create blogs and forums and discuss about any topic. *Uploading and sharing videos and photos are possible.

*Fotki system features a spam filter with 20 levels of sensitivity. * By editing the privacy settings users can manage visibility of their photo albums or profile informations. * Fotki requires validation in order to activate an account.

However ; It is not providing enough storage space to its Free members as it does to its premium members. does not have a very well-designed user interface and it may seem a little complicated for the first usages. It also mainly deals with photographing issues and digital photo sharing which is a disadvantage for the people who have some other purposes. *Additionally, fotki uses JavaScript, XML,ActiveX,FTP technologies.

ACADEMIA (academia.edu) It is similar to our project. It does not belong to a specific university or a department as opposed to our project description (i.e "... CMPE community can express..."). There are many universities all over the world.

What does it offers to its user? In this social network site, each member have Answers and Questions sections on their profiles. Like creating a new forum,you can ask questions about a specific topic to the other people and the people interested in this question can answer or follow the question. By following the question,you can easily reach the possible answers may be given in the future. Besides,you can see the past questions and answers related to this topic.

One defective feature we realize in the signup process is that it does not check to validate user's real identity. We used a hotmail account with fake name and surname to sign up and the site did not complain. If the site targets the academic people, it can use accounts with.edu extension in the signup process.

is another similar site to our project. It is an enterprise social network service used for private communication within organizations or between organizational members and pre- designated groups.

Researchgate.net is another similar site.It is like Academia.edu. However interests are restricted to scientific topics. Researchgate.net Academia.edu LinkedIn - Business and professional networking LinkedIn Linkedin is a widely used platform which is similar to our project, because it can also be considered academic. There is a "jobs" section on this site. Since CMPE gathers people from the same department, job opportunities and announcements can be shared within this section if we add it as a requirement in our project.
