CDF Fermilab Among the main assets of CDF:  1 st hadron collider experiment with a microvertex detector  1 st & unique experiment with vertex tracking trigger capability (select b-quark at LV2) These two detector unique capabilities => 2008 Panofsky prize for Physics  Sophisticated & highly performing trigger: Level-1 tracking trigger and Updated LV1 trigger with FPGA clusters => very precise estimate of missing energy, τ ID, jet energy etc... Crucial improvements for BSM & Higgs Improved recorded data quality and capability to cope with highest luminosity and even enhancing the Physics reach. BETTER DATA QUALITY AND MORE DATA  First GRID running experiment France, 10/29/20157CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon, 2009

Accelerator & CDF performances Tevatron is the world highest energy accelerator at  S=1.96 TeV until LHC takes over CDF will be able to take data until in 2010 and is discussing taking data in 2011 Data processing and analysis will be done 4-5 more years after that. Data taken 5.8 fb -1 (January 31, 2009) Data taking CDF efficiency 80-85% 7 fb -1 till by /29/20159CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon, 2009

Tevatron projection curves until end 2010 The running of the machine is still improving, it is believed Tevatron can deliver peak luminosity > 400 µb -1 /s. Thus see next slide 10/29/201511CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon, 2009

Why this LIA on CDF? Keeping CDF/Tevatron running beyond 2010 The Whitepaper, commissioned by the CDF spokespersons, scientific arguments for continued running with as benchmark: 2-3 more years with 2.5/fb/year delivered 2012: 15/fb delivered and “10+” analyzable per experiment. 10/29/201512CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon, 2009

Developing common interest in Top/Higgs searches Both Korea and France have been working on top Physics: => top into dileptons (Korea) => top into dilepton including one τ lepton (France) => single top (Korea and France) We are developing a common research project: based on the acquired experience of both teams on top Physics; focused on the study of top pairs into τ leptons and as by-product the search for Higgs into τ pairs and charged Higgs into τ ν τ This common research will bring an interesting breakthrough with the data recorded with the total Tevatron Luminosity (may be even a discovery if the τ-channel is favoured ?) and it will be instrumental for the LHC. =>Need of large amount of MC production (KISTI and CCIN2P3) and we also intend to include now data handling in both centers. 10/29/2015 CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon,

The TOP quark case Interesting and not yet well studied case (in progress) the top paire production with the top decaying into τ (see next) The Top quark and the Tau-lepton are crucial elements to look for New Physics But require highly performing and sophisticated detector and analysis 10/29/2015 CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon,

τ + → π + [ π - π + ] ν τ (n π 0 ) BR=50% BR=14% An inner cone, shrinking with energy, 1 or 3 good tracks τ IDENTIFICATION only possible in hadronic decay Tagging and triggering based on: CDF detector and trigger system are especially suited for the tau-related searches 10/29/2015 CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon,

Search for top into τ’s : main motivations Goal #1: First time 3 σ observation (not yet!) Goal #2: Check BR(t→ τν b) wrt Standard Model  BR(Wb) = 100% ? Or H + b ?? H-?H-? Training camp for BSM searches  background of SUSY  τ dominant decay at large tan β 10/29/ CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon, 2009

The many ways to produce a Higgs at CDF H b,  _ m H <140GeV m H >140GeV H W (*),Z (*) W,Z _ gg→H→bb dominates but huge QCD bkgd =>close to IMPOSSIBLE WH→l νbb ZH→llbb VH→ννbb, ν(l)bb VH→qqbb H→ττ(+jets) decay W&Z decays in τ 10/29/2015 CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon,

Neutral SM Higgs into τ- leptons Important to look at different decay mode (i.e. H→ττ, not only H→ bb). Analysis optimized for SM Higgs, but sensitive to non SM Higgs. MSSM predicts a much higher H-rate for large tanβ in gluon-gluon fusion, esp. in τ -decay. 10/29/2015 CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon,

B Physics common searches Physics stream  B physics with different data based on   and 2 track triggers mainly for Bs Mixing (CDF discovery in 2006) pursuing since two years on CP violation studies in the Bs sector  Same physics streams B → J/ψ Φ: CP violation related studies  CP even and odd measurement: sin2βs (France) ( started by G.P. di Giovanni and A. Savoy-Navarro now continuing with N. Ershaidat and soon A. Savelyeva and V. Saveliev)  B → J/ψ K *0 competitive results with Babar/Belle (France)  B → J/ψ Φ, ψ(2S) Φ (Korea)  B → J/ψ Φ, using new PID (dE/dx andTOF) and TTT (Two Track Trigger) => sin2βs (France) => The Bs sector is crucial Physics for searches beyond standard model. 10/29/2015 CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon,

Bs: key tool to explore matter-antimatter mystery After measuring with an unprecedented precision the oscillation frequency between Bs and anti-Bs states, Very high precision measurements => a way to look for New Physics. Important breakthrough and even possible discovery with the full Luminosity. we are measuring the lifetime difference and the CPV phase in order to see if any deviation with the SM expectation. 10/29/2015 CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon,

Plan France-Korea CDF Physics Workshop  Date: June 2009 (exact date tbc)  Place: in Paris (?), Korea (?) or at FNAL (?)  Agenda  Theory  Bs Physics  Top Physics and beyond (W’, Higgs related searches)  Brainstorming Define the detailed agenda, organize/attend the workshop, set- up clear milestones and follow up. Setting such a collaboration between teams that are quite far away took some time. It needed to clarify some misinterpretation within the Korean groups about the goals of this project; the aim is not only computing developments but also, and with a very high priority, developing an effective Physics collaboration, including PhD thesis co-advising. It took about six months to understand how and with whom to achieve this part of the project. We have converged now on how to proceed: 10/29/2015 CDF-LIA, FKPPL in Lyon,
