Lina Robinson Continuous Improvement of the WRH06 Hairdressing Training Package February 2010 Update

Key project phases Discussion paper circulation and feedback Recommended Action Report based on feedback Drafting and refinement of Training Package content Validation with key stakeholders Finalisation and submission for endorsement

Key project timelines Discussion Paper and feedback Recommended Action Report Drafting & refinement of content Validation with key stakeholders Finalisation and Submission Nov - Jan 2009 March 2010March – June 2010 June - Aug 2010Mid Nov 2010

Discussion paper response Feedback forms received via or fax Teacher networks held in various states Interviews with industry, industry associations and RTO representatives as nominated by state training authorities and state industry advisory bodies

Discussion paper themes/feedback Specialisations Stakeholders believe that the Certificate III should not allow for specialisations (other than ladies and men’s specialisations). It was generally agreed that specialisations should occur at the Certificate IV level Role of Salon Receptionist/Assistant Feedback revealed that the Certificate II is predominately a preparatory qualification

Discussion paper themes/feedback Salon management and creative leadership skills Feedback suggested pathways beyond a Certificate IV Trichology There is lack of support for the trichology qualification Environmental sustainability Water and energy usage, waste management, recycling and sustainable salon design were the identified ‘green skills’

Discussion paper themes/feedback Customer service Feedback suggests that consultation skills need to be expressed beyond what is currently in the training package Business knowledge There is strong support for hairdressers to develop knowledge in how they contribute to the business

Discussion paper themes/feedback Quality of training, including assessment Support for units that allow the integration of skills and focus on teamwork Strong support for tighter assessment guidelines, including facilities and equipment, industry requirements for assessors

Additional comments/issues Stakeholders are still concerned about the inadequate nominal hours attached to the Certificate III in Hairdressing which is impacting on quality delivery

How can you be involved? Feedback on all draft componentsJune –Aug 2010 Feedback on Issues RegisterOngoing throughout the project
