Presentation transcript:

1 Head Teachers pay progression

2 Changes to Headteacher’s pay Pay awards are generally effective from 1 September each year. The pay award must be based on appraisal assessment. Assessment period is generally July – August.

3 Appraisal across school All pay progression is linked to the appraisal. Has the appraisal system been implemented effectively across school? Have any whole school objectives been set/met? Is pupil progress at the levels expected? Have all staff been measured against their objectives? Have Governors been informed of all staff progression?

Pay progression Pay progression is not based on service. Have the Headteacher objectives been met? Have any Ofsted requirements been met? Has the Headteacher led by example? Is the budget stable? Is there strategic leadership? Are all staff given the opportunity for professional development? 4

Considerations Over the appraisal year have you had regular discussions/updates with the Headteacher? Have you records of discussions with HT regarding school/staff performance? Is there still scope for progress within the Headteacher range? What do you know about the school and the Headteacher range/pay?

GB Statutory Duty Use your external Advisor for advice and support. Appraise the HT against standards, performance and objectives. The Advisor will assist, guide and advise throughout the appraisal and attend PM meeting. 27

Headteacher Review Statement Drafted by PM Governors (supported by Advisor) to include: - evidence of progress towards objectives set previous year, role responsibilities, school/pupil performance. - agreed objectives for next year, take advice from your professional Advisor. - any recommendations for pay progression. 28

PM Committee - Communication HR can advise Chair of Governors - where Head Teacher is within their group and range. Inform Head Teacher in writing of outcome in relation to pay progression. Inform payroll to action any salary changes or changes in ISR (copy of Headteacher letter). 29
