Policies, Procedures, and other stuff. FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

 Graduated from UNT class of 2015! #gmg  BS in Developmental and Family Studies  Taught Preschool for several years ABOUT MRS. BENFIELD

 This class focuses on nutrition, food choices, and food management skills for individuals and the family throughout the life cycle. Students will learn basic cooking skills along with how to make healthy food and lifestyle choices. The course will explore how the principles of food science, technology, and nutrition are interdependent with growth, development, health and wellness.  Please let me know if you have already taken this class! SYLLABUS

 EVERY SINGLE DAY you need to come to class with paper to write on and a working pen or pencil to write with. Sometimes you will be expected to keep up with something, so you need to have some sort of storage device (folder, binder, etc..)  You are in high school, you should be responsible enough by now to keep up with a paper for 2 days. “I lost it” is not a valid excuse for missing work.  Please bring something for the pantry so that our money can be used for food to cook rather than class consumables.  Unopened 5lb. Bag of sugar  Liquid dishwashing soap  2 pack of paper towels  Kleenex  Hand sanitizer SUPPLIES

 Major Assessments: tests, projects, presentations, and labs  70%  Minor Assessments: quizzes, writing prompts, classroom activities  30%  Reassessment  A request to reassess form must be submitted to me  All late work tied to assignment must be completed and turned in  You must reassess within 10 days of the original assignment date  You get one chance to reassess for full credit  Absent Work  Assignments will be in the blue folders, it is your responsibility to grab anything you might have missed while absent  Food Lab  If you have any zeros you cannot participate in food lab, you will be asked to complete an alternative assignment. GRADING POLICY

 All policies in the student handbook will be followed  Come to class on time and prepared  Students will sit in their assigned seat or be counted absent  Student will be help responsible for equipment and furniture at his/her workstation  Be respectful to your teacher and classmates  Inappropriate cell phone use is not allowed  What is inappropriate?  Stay in your seat until the bell rings  When leaving the classroom make sure area is clean, chair is pushed in, and trash is thrown away  Respect the boundaries established by the green lines CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

 1 st offense: Warning/parent phone call  2 nd offense: Administrative referral  3 rd offense: Saturday school  Cheating in any way, shape, or form calls for immediate administrative referral.  Students incapable of handling themselves in a class setting will not be allowed to participate in foods lab. CONSEQUENCES

 For the safety of you and your classmates, there are certain policies that are specifically for food lab days  Hair that is long enough must be pulled back (yes, that’s for you too boys).  Long flowy sleeves that might impede with cooking are prohibited.  Backpacks and other personal items are not allowed in lab space and must instead be left in the designated area (this includes CELL PHONES!).  Horseplay is prohibited in the lab.  Students will stay in their own designated lab station and not wander around the room.
