Goals of the FFVP Expand the variety of fruit and vegetables children experience Increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption Make a difference in children’s diets to impact their present and future health

Benefits of FFVP Another snack opportunity for students Consumption of healthier food will increase Excited Kids, Parents, Teachers, and Staff

Program Details USDA awards money to each state Indiana awards smaller grants to schools that apply and are approved to operate the program Schools will receive $50-$75 per student

Program Details Money can be used on: o Fresh fruits and vegetables o Equipment to operate the program o Labor costs due to administration of program and prep/production Claim process is similar to NSLP, you will be reimbursed out of the grant fund awarded. Grant is split up into two funding periods o July – September o October – June

Requirements At least 50% free/reduced level Elementary Schools only- Pre K through 6 th Grade Provided during the school day Operate separately from breakfast, lunch, or after school snack Implement a minimum of 2 days per week Provide nutrition education, develop partnerships, and promote the program

Think about this: Where will you procure produce? Who will develop menus and complete paperwork? Who will prep the produce and deliver to the students? Will the teachers be on board? Will custodians be on board? Will food service staff be on board? Will administration – principals, Superintendent - be on board?

Tips for Success Start with one or two motivated schools Find energetic partners – teachers, nurse, librarian, school foodservice employee Use volunteers or get classes involved Attend webinars, read newsletters, visit the website, call me!

Application Process Be sure to complete the entire application process by the deadline. Before you apply make sure you have the support of your school!

FFVP Application Available beginning January 26th Application is due by March 13th All school buildings that want to be on the program must apply via Moodle
