BSY D10 replacement dump Proposal Dieter Walz Alev Ibrahimov March

Existing D10 Dump

Proposed D10 location in MUON shield

Disadvantages using D10 as a BSY Dump in LCLS2 - This device is been in service for 45 years and internal features condition is unknown and unpredictable; - This is a multipurpose device and will be used only as a dump; - Device is very big – about 2m X 5m X 1m; - If D10 fails is not fixable. No spares; - About 40% of MUON shield needs to be removed only to place D10 inside; - Before reuse, D10 needs significant modification – about $50K; - Because of the shape difficult to fill the cavities around the body to comply with shielding requirements from RP; - Installation inside the MUON shield and alignment will be very difficult

Proposed D10 replacement dump in BSY Detailed information for replacement dump proposed by Dieter was sent on Mar Link to this document is below: V:\LCLS\LCLS_II\Alev\LCLS2\BSY\D10 dump\D10 Replacement dump\Dieters D10 replacement dump This proposal is based on the 300kW dump tested at SLAC. Drawing for this dump can be find here: hp?img=pdf/Released/4/ad pdf
