What is the NYS Requirement for Foreign Language? 1 High school credit 2 years of seat time Most students complete this requirement in 7 th and 8 th grade.

Why sign up for B level courses if I’ve already met the graduation requirement?

If your goal is to earn the Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, you can do this with a total of 3 credits in LOTE (including the Regents Exam). To get those three credits, you would take B1 and B2 and take the Regents exam at the end of B2.

What do we do in foreign language classes? Students develop the four skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing through participating in a wide variety of activities including... –Performing in skits –Making amateur videos –Reading important literary works –Writing stories, poems –Singing, dancing –Watching foreign movies –Presenting cultural projects.

Many colleges look specifically for foreign language courses when evaluating high school transcripts. Almost any job or career can be enhanced by skills in a foreign language (enhanced meaning you can earn more money!) Foreign language is FUN!

Current LOTE course:Sign up for: AB1 B2R or B2H B2C1H C2H

Can I take more than one foreign language?

Of course! Some students at West are currently taking French, Spanish and German! Students in other countries often take 2 or 3 foreign languages before they graduate! If you are a freshman now, you can start Level A in a second foreign language and take the Regents Exam when you are a senior.

College Credit for Level C through ECC and NCCC Earn up to 7 credits over two years Bridge the gap between high school and college language courses Prepare for a minor or a major Take care of your college foreign language requirements before you get there Impress college admissions officers

Travel Opportunities Students enrolled in the LOTE courses will have the opportunity to apply to travel on our Ken-Ton school exchanges to France, Germany or Spain as well as our French Trip to Québec City

Language Clubs Students have the opportunity to further their knowledge and cultural appreciation via the Language Clubs Language Club activities are often an extension of class activities

How do I sign up? See your Guidance Counselor or see any of the foreign language teachers for more information
