Polar Vision

From the NSF Strategic Plan “Empowering the Nation through Innovation and Discovery The National Science Foundation (NSF) is the primary Federal agency supporting research at the frontiers of knowledge, across all fields of science and engineering (S&E) and all levels of S&E education. NSF-funded research and education projects —selected through competitive, merit-based review—have fueled many important innovations that in turn have stimulated economic growth and improved the quality of life and health for all Americans.

Version One The Office of Polar Programs fosters creative and innovative scientific research, engineering, and education in and about the polar regions, advancing fundamental discovery and understanding of the interactions that define our environment, to inform the nation and advance the welfare of all people.

Version Two The Office of Polar Programs fosters creative and innovative scientific research, engineering, and education in and about the polar regions, leading to fundamental discovery and understanding of the interactions that define our environment, to advance science and knowledge.

Version Three The Office of Polar Programs engenders creative and innovative scientific research, engineering, and education in and about the polar regions, promoting fundamental discovery and understanding of the interactions that characterize these and other environments, to advance knowledge through progress in science.
