The municipality of Køge

-Area 256 km2 -About inhabitants -About 9% are immigrants or their descendants (5.200/122 different countries) -About employees working for the municipality

About Køge -Køge became a borough in and is with a picturesque downtown and the largest square outside the capital, one of the best preserved cities from the Middle Ages in the country.

Køge Town Hall Køge Town Hall was built in 1552 King Christian III granted permission to build the town hall The town hall has been used for many different purposes

Køge City Arms The city arms have 4 main motives Køge bridge, a king’s crown, a cross and god’s protective hand The oldest preserved print is from 1329 The implementation of Køge design line in 2004, resulted in the new city arms The old city arms are only used on special occasions

The town council of Køge -The council is the assembly of elected politicians with the overall responsibility of the municipality -The council must have at least 9 and no more than 31 members and it must be an odd number -Køge town council has 27 members representing 7 different parties. -Køge Town council has 8 committees

The Mayor Flemming Christensen The Conservative Peoples Party Flemming Christensen became mayor on 1 st January 2014

The role of the mayor -The mayor is elected from among the town council members -Leads political negotiations, including council meetings held every month and the meetings in the economical committee - twice a month -Head of the administration and it is the mayor’s responsibility to ensure that administrative standards are respected -Represents the municipality of Køge and conducts wedding ceremonies – about 110 civil marriage ceremonies every year

Elections Elections to the council take place every four years – on the third Tuesday in November Every resident in the municipality over the age of 18 can vote. Those who do not have Danish citizenship must have lived in Denmark for 3 years before being able to vote
