The word advertising comes form the latin word "advertere meaning” to turn the minds of towards". According to American Marketing Association "advertising is any paid form of non-personal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods and services by an identified sponsor".

What is advertising? — AMA Advertising is the nonpersonal communication of information, usually paid for and usually persuasive in nature, about products (goods and services), or ideas by identified sponsors through the various media. — AMA

Advertising’s role in marketing Marketing is a process—a series of actions or methods that take place sequentially— aimed at satisfying customer needs profitably. This process includes developing products, pricing them strategically, making them available to customers through a distribution network, and promoting them through sales and advertising activities. 4Ps (marketing mix): product, pricing, place (distribution) & promotion (communication)
