Budapet is the capital city of Hungary. As the largest city of Hungary, it serves as the country's principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation centre. In 2010, Budapest had 1,721,556 inhabitants, down from 1980 peak of 2.06 million. The city covers an area of 525 square kilometres within the city limits. Budapest became a single city occupying both banks of the river.
Founded The first settlement on the territory of Budapest was built by Celts[8] before 1 AD. It was later occupied by the Romans. The Roman settlement - Aquincum - became the main city of Lower Pannonia in 106. Hungarians led by Árpád settled in the territory at the end of the 9th century, and a century later officially founded the Kingdom of Hungary. After the foundation of the first Hungarian university in Pécs in 1367, the second one was established in Óbuda in The first Hungarian book was printed in Buda in 1473.Buda had about 5,000 inhabitants around 1500.
