Children Physical abuse includes: Bruises or cuts Head injuries Poisoning Fractures, sprains Burns or scalds Internal injuries Electrical shocks Death Sexual abuse and child exploitation

Why does it happen?

According to the internet investigation of Taiwan World Vision There are four questions in the test: 1. Do you think parents are in the bit of mood when spring vacation is approach? 2. Do you think children will be treated badly easier during Chinese New Year in winter vacation? 3. Do you think children have accidences much easier during Chinese New Year in winter vacation? 4.Would you call 113 when discovering children abuse?

Why does it happen? The answers of the 70% of the 2671 repliers – First - Economic stresses 51.4% Second - Psychical stresses from customs and family 24.6% Third – House cleaning and other thing consume much energy 7.5% 1,450 people (54.2%) consider during winter vacation children will be unsuitably treat.

Why does it happen? Some experts consider Family Transition is the main reason. Family Transition : 1. Globalization → Migrate (new settlers, property moving...) → intermarriage → aging of population → the trend of fewer children 2. Hard culture invade → Multiform culture live in a place at the same time 3. The function, property environment, traditional custom, economic characters have changed. Which lead to the family values and culture no longer playing important roles in society.

When discovering children abuse…… 70% people in Taiwan will help immediately. 30% people are not clear about how to help, afraid to help, not knowing abuse is happening… being not willing to help. If you can report a children abuse case, that is possible you are saving a life. Three points to remember when you report an abuse: 1. Tell where are the child or any ways that are able to find him/her. 2. Describe all the detailed of the injury and abuse situation as possible as you can 3. When you find doubtful children abuse or carelessness, please call 113

Help from you and me Help from public: Police + Government + NGO (Non-Government Organization) (like World vision…) From year 2000, ‘113’ had received countless calls from the public. The number of 113 is increasing - Averagely, 250 thousand calls a year 700 calls a day 5 calls per hour

Help from you and me According the count of calling 113: In 2007, there were 10,533 children and family abuse cases announced during Jan. and Feb.. From Sep, 1,2007 to Dec, 31,2007: 114,120 calls announced cases 3815 including children protection cases 2,544 (67%) From Jan. to Feb. announced cases are much less than other months in the year. It shows that these two months are the gray area of a year. Children protection cases is increasing. Most of them are Physical abuse.

Conclusion

“Children abuse”,a common and serious situation no matter where we are. It is a human tragedy which happens everyday. Although the world have already notice this problem for many years, we can still hear from it all the time. Raise your will instead ignore the problem. Shall we?
