Wednesday, August 25 Welcome to Ms. Simmons’ English I class!

Welcome! Please have a seat and begin your starter. On your desk is a form. Please read it and follow the instructions. Once you have completed your assignment, please wait quietly until the timer goes off. Every day when you arrive, there will be a starter activity. Please begin it as soon as you have prepared your materials for class.

Procedures: Beginning of class As soon as you enter the room, you have “crossed the threshold” and can no longer leave the room. Once you’re in, you’re in. Please use the restroom, get a drink of water, go to your locker and speak with your peers BEFORE you enter our classroom. When you’re in, you’re in! The doorway is for movement, not standing!

Procedures: Beginning of class Once you’re in…you need your materials out to work everyday. A list of materials needed will be on the board. Gather those materials and prepare them (sharpen pencils, borrow an eraser, etc.). You must gather all of your materials before you begin your starter.

Procedures: Lack of materials If you do not have your materials, you may borrow from your classmates or you may buy some from Ms. Simmons. In order to purchase materials, please have the appropriate amount of money ready and on your desk. When the bell rings, silently raise your hand and Ms. Simmons will deliver to you!

Procedures: Countdown When Ms. Simmons needs your attention, she’ll raise her hand. This is a signal for you to countdown. 3 – 2 – 1 3 – Get silent. 2 – Get still. 1 – Get attentive.

Exit Card There will be a list of questions on the board about the day’s lesson. As we progress through the lesson, you are to write the answers to the questions on an Index Card. In order to leave the class you must present the completed exit card to Ms. Simmons.

Guideline Infraction Notice When you receive a Guideline Infraction Notice, read it. Sign It. Keep it until the end of class and hand it to Ms. Simmons with your Exit Card.

Student of the Week Every Monday, you will vote for Student of the Week. Guidelines Must be a Tornado or Golden Tornado Must not have any Guideline Infractions during that week. Must not be tardy during that week. Student of the Week will be announced Friday before their week

Why do I want to be SOTW? Allowed to sit on the couch during class. Chooses music. Receives 1 INC pass. Collects papers. Hands out papers. If teacher is absent, SOTW will be responsible for assisting substitute.

Procedures: Dismissal of class A minute or two before the class ends, Ms. Simmons will ask students to prepare for dismissal. Students are to listen carefully for instructions on how to return materials. Students should complete Exit Card and clean up around their desks. All students are to remain seated quietly until Ms. Simmons dismisses the class. The bell does not dismiss you, Ms. Simmons does!
