Mrs. Bridenbaugh’s 7 th/ 8 th Grade Expectations/Rules

First Day of School! Finding Nemo- First Day#384D2DC

Yep, me too!

Welcome  Who am I?  What do I hold dear?  What are the expectations of this classroom?

 So how do we accomplish these expectations?  You will listen during lessons.  You will allow others to speak without interrupting  You will remember to raise your hand when you need to add to the conversation in the room.  You will treat everyone with respect.  You will “choose kind” and treat others as you wish to be treated.

Supplies  2 composition books****Wait…let’s make that 3!  Pencils/pens/erasers  Markers  A novel to read during class  Highlighters  Binder for organizing work  Coloring utensils

Love and Logic  Natural consequences will be allowed to occur in my class.  If you don’t have a pencil it is up to you to figure out a solution.  If you forget to turn in your work, it is your grade that will be affected  If you are late to class you will be marked tardy for the office to deal with

Grades/Homework  Homework is assigned two to three times a week.  I will usually allow time in the classroom to start work  If you choose to not finish homework and /or not turn it in you have up to one week to turn in the assignment.  Homework will not be accepted after one week unless you have arranged extra time with me, or you have been sick.

Communication  Learn to advocate for yourself  I will not speak to your parents before you have communicated with me.  You are in charge of your grades. I expect you to check “Family Access” often.  I will pass out progress reports when requested.  My planbook is online. Feel free to check it if you are absent or forget what we did on any given day.  Planbook.com/   Wikispace: bridenbaughwikispace.wikispaces.com

Quality of Work  I expect all work to be completed using the “3 Cs” – Complete/Correct/Comprehensive  We will discuss and share “A” work in class so that you understand the concept of “A” quality.  Tests/projects/quizzes/speeches: 60%  Daily assignments: 40%

Procedures  All work will be turned in to basket  All work will have your name/class/date  If you are missing work and you know you did it you can find all graded work in the “graded” basket.  No names will be placed in the “graded” box

Procedures  You are capable of using the bathroom without my permission.  Choose an appropriate time during class to visit the lavatory.  Sharpening pencils and leaving the classroom will disrupt me if I am teaching. Choose a good time to leave and don’t forget a pass.  The bell does not dismiss you. Stay in your seats until I dismiss you. Pick up around your space.  Between 2:10 – 2:20 you will stay in your seat.  Do not touch my dry erase markers and whiteboard.  Do not touch my laptop or desktop computer without asking permission first.

A Positive Environment  We treat each other with kindness and respect.  We respect each other in the classroom, hallway, and lunchroom  When a substitute is in our classroom students will act respectfully.  We will greet every adult in a positive way while walking in the hallway.  Good manners at all times

Things to know..  The teachers are known for developing relationships with their students.  You will enjoy 7 th / 8 th grade if you remember that the teachers work closely together and have similar expectations.  Teachers talk to one another. Don’t think that when you leave my classroom that the rules and expectations no longer apply.  We enjoy our jobs and you will reap the benefits of happy teachers if you follow the rules.  Smile! Say “good morning”. Help out one another. Compliment each other. Make it a good day!  We will be working and learning with partners/small groups/ whole class – let’s be positive, kind, helpful, and remember to hold ourselves accountable for our work and our attitude!
