Personal Relationships in School-aged Children (Grade 7) An Integrated Project Using E-Stat for Mathematics and Health & Physical Education

Importance of Studying Personal Relationships in School-aged Children In order to recognize that a) children develop skills that are needed to initiate and maintain social relationships and to resolve social conflicts. b) relationships help to build self-confidence within children. c) those who fail to develop positive personal relationships experience isolation and may become truant in school. These students may also fall victim to the influence of delinquent and drug and alcohol abusing peers.

Relevance of Studying Personal Relationships to School-aged Children The study of relationships helps children to understand themselves as individuals and members of various groups. The understanding of familial and peer relationships will allow the children to relate to people in the wider world. Children need to be exposed to opportunities that make them aware of the dynamics of social relationships and interactions revolving around their common needs, beliefs and interests.

Health Expectations Healthy Living – Growth and Development -Use effective communication skills to deal with various relationships and situations.

Math Expectations Data Management and Probability – Collection and Organization of Data -Collect and organize categorical and discrete secondary data and display the data in charts, tables, and graphs that have appropriate titles, labels, and scales that suit the range and distribution of the data. - Read, interpret, and draw conclusions from secondary data presented in charts, tables, and graphs

Math Expectations (Cont’d) Number Sense and Numeration – Quantity Relationships -Represent and compare decimals using a variety of tools. -Use percentages and represent them as fractions in a pie chart.

Q. How easy is it to talk to the following persons about things that really bother you?

Q. How easy is it to talk to the following persons about things that really bother you?

Q. How easy is it to talk to your mother about things that really bother you?

Q. How easy is it to talk to your father about things that really bother you?

Three Questions to Ask the Grade 7 Class 1.By looking at the two bar graphs: a) Estimate the average of males and females who find it easy to talk to their mother. b) Do the same for the father. 2.Represent each of your calculations in two separate pie charts. 3.Create two different fractions by using the answers from your first question.

The End Hope you enjoyed our presentation! Remember to keep fit and have fun! Miss Curry and Miss Carroll
