The Japanese Program at SDSU offers a variety of courses designed to develop advanced language skills which can lead to a number of careers after graduation. A major in Japanese is also a good preparation for graduate programs in such areas as Asian studies, anthropology, economics, history, international business, international law, journalism, librarianship, linguistics, political science, and public administration. It also gives graduates an advantage in looking for positions in Japan in areas such as language teaching, business consulting, or journalism
Two facts are The Chinese program at SDSU currently offers general Mandarin language instruction for over three years. In addition to the general language classes, advanced special purpose courses such as Business Chinese and Newspaper Chinese are also regularly offered. Courses on Chinese culture, literature and linguistics are offered on a rotational basis. The Chinese language program currently offers a minor in Chinese. All six courses from the first three years can be used to satisfy the GE requirement. Over three years of Chinese is required for International Business majors.
