Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in Southern Vietnam (ASMES) and its contribution to Trade Capacity Vietnam (TCV) (Speaker: Pham Hai Tung) Hà Nội, 12/11/2014

Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in southern Vietnam (ASMES) is a social professional organization of small and medium enterprises belonging to all economic elements of Vietnam, which voluntary established with a goal to cooperate, support and help each other for developing occupation, improving production effect and protecting legal interests of its members in the field of small and medium Enterprise’s activities. 2

Association of Small and Medium Enterprises was established in 2013, converted from a Southern Representative Office of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in Vietnam (established in 2006) due to the development needs of business community has been transformed into Association of Small and Medium enterprises in the south approved by government. 3

 ASMES connects SMEs with appropriate authorities in contributing opinions to government agencies to improve institutions, policies. ASMES carries out process of integrating global economy with other organizations operating in the fields of SME all around the world in principle of respect, equal and mutual benefit according to regulations of Vietnamese law. 4

 During 8 year operations the Association has over 500 members and thousands of associated members and contributed significantly to the success of the business community in general and small and medium-sized enterprises VN 5

Functions:  Representing and protecting the legal interests of members in the field of small and medium enterprises’ activities with appropriate authorities, organization inland and overseas according to the law. Facilitating inland enterprises contacts to overseas enterprises.  Supporting members to expand and develop businesses- productions, organizing business forum for cooperation, exchange ideas and experiences for the goal of firm development of enterprises. 6

Field and sphere of activities:  To exchange information of science, technology, business and production inland and overseas related to the fields of SMEs in accordance with the low,  To join the task of advising and criticizing with government agencies on programs, plans, structures, policies to develop SMEs in particular and all enterprises in general according to the law of Vietnam. 7

Tasks :  Consulting law and professional businesses for members  Organizing training courses for members about technology, specialist skill, new method of management, management skills, and labour skill.  Carrying out the role as trade, tourism and investment promotions.  Updating and providing members information about policy, law, and state guideline related to the field of SMEs.  The association links with other professional associations inside and outside country to create linkages together in order to support and develop in the integration economy. 8

 ASMES is cooperating with SEQUA and VAFIE, who are chosen by the EU to participate in Trade capacity Vietnam (TCV) to boost VN's integration into International trade system, enhancing Vietnam - EU trade relations and maximize the benefits for economic development, inclusive growth and reduce poverty. 9 ASMES and its role in Trade Capacity Vietnam

 In particular, ASMES will collaborate with VAFIE and Sequa in all 3 main fields of the TCV project, i.e.:  Capacity building for all ASMES staffs;  Establishment and put into operation of Trade Advocacy Committee (TAC) for the southern Vietnam;  Implement the Nucleus Network for the southern Vietnam. 10 ASMES and its role in Trade Capacity Vietnam
