Greek Root Vocabulary Project

Description of Project  Each student will be assigned a Greek root word. Students are to find the meaning(s) of the root ○ Some only have one meaning ○ Some may have two or three meanings Students will collect 20 words that demonstrate the use of the Greek root.

Example  Greek root cosm Has three meanings ○ Universe ○ Order/ornament ○ World  Words that use the root cosm: Microcosm, cosmic ray, cosmos, cosmetics, cosmology and cosmonaut

Find the definitions of the words  Cosmic: having to do with the whole universe  Cosmology: study of the universe  Microcosm: a small world  Cosmetics: used to ornament the face Be certain that the definition uses the meaning of the word

Universe Cosmology- the study of the universe Cosmic- having to do with the whole universe Cosmogony- the study of the origin of the universe Order/ornament Cosmetics- used to ornament the face World Microcosm- a small world Macrocosm- a large world Cosmopolitan- having to do with the whole world Sort the words by their meanings if your root has more than one meaning

Create a poster showing your Greek Root and related words BE ORIGINAL! DO NOT just type up everything on a sheet and paste it to the construction paper. You will lose lots of points using this method. You may use a computer to find the root meaning, to find words using the root, and to find definitions.
