Presenting! Chapter #3

What are we Going to Cover Today? Nuts / Bolts Get to the Meat & Potatoes The Summary of the Chapter Q & A

Nuts & Bolts This chapter is a “fun” chapter. This chapter focuses on the following: The in’s & out’s of a computer system The roles of output devices vs. input devices Popular types of storage devices How all of this got to do anything with teaching and learning tasks

Things That Make You Go Hmmm! A question to ask while we explore the chapter is: How does a computer work?

A Computer System Simply put, A computer system is a computer and the sum of all its components.

The Computing Cycle

Software Vs. Hardware According to the chapter, the difference between hardware vs. software is that software is set instructions or programs for a given task. For example, Microsoft Word is a software that provide the user a means of entering text or data. Hardware is all the physical components that are associated with the equipment.

Examples of Input Devices Key board Computer Mouse

Examples of Output Devices Computer Monitor Printer

Storage Storage holds data and programs so it does not have to be repeatedly reentered. According to the chapter, all computers have a hard disk drive to store info. However, addition external devices have been developed to store information as well.

Some Examples Floppy Disk USB Flash-drive CD/DVD Removable hard-drive

Memory Memory is pretty much the same as storage. The difference is that memory is short- term storage space only. That means, only temporary task can be completed or accessed.

The Meat & Potatoes By understanding the basic functions of a computer, you can build or develop more applications to the computer for individual or group use.

What does this have to do with teaching and learning? Today, most people are two things:  Visual Learners  Learn mostly hands-on What better way to develop the best learning environment imaginable by captivating your students through the world of technology

Q &A…… What are three the four components of the computing cycle? What are three types of output devices? Is their a difference between storage and memory? Give some examples.
