Geography  Lies 400 miles north west of modern Ghana.  It lay between the Niger and the Gambia Rivers in West Africa.

Economy Derived power and wealth from trading gold for salt. Introduction of camels boosted the amount of trade. Because Ghana was between the Niger and Gambia Rivers most trade was transported by boat. Women had a high status in economic life.
