TRANSPORT OPERATIONAL PLANS FOR THE FIFA 2010 World Cup TM 18 MAY 2010

 All the transport plans have been finalised  For the final preparations, meetings have been arranged to engage Africa which include “The 6-pack” and SADC.  PREPARATIONS

 Meeting in Ghana  To brief the all qualifying countries from Africa - Algeria - Cote d’ Ivoire - Cameroon - Ghana - Nigeria - South Africa  To receive reports on their traveling arrangements to the Soccer World Cup (SWC)  To draw up a programme regarding transportation arrangements for their VIP’s and fans  PREPARATIONS

 Meeting in Pemba (Mozambique) 27 May 2010  SADC Meeting of all Ministers of Transport  Briefing about 2010 SWC  To look at estimated numbers to attend SWC  To look at the modes of transport to be utilized as well as roadworthiness matters  Cross Border Road Transport Agency (C-BRTA) and Road Traffic Management Agency (RTMC) to coordinate licensing and law enforcement activities  PREPARATIONS

 Countries and religious groups are mobilizing their supporters and they are also organizing packages, eg. “Welcome World Cup 2010 Muslim Initiative” & “British Supporters Association (BSA)  PREPARATIONS

OVERVIEW  The Department of Transport entered into an agreement with FIFA to provide an effective, reliable and safe transport services to the spectators who will be attending the world cup in South Africa from 11 June – 11 July 2010  The Department is on course to provide on its mandate as promised.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE & OPERATIONS  INFRASTRUCTURE  Road construction commenced in 2008 and will be completed in May 2010  SANRAL is responsible for national roads and in some cases has assisted the Host Cities/ Provinces  Host Cities are responsible for local access roads with funding from the PTIS  Where road construction is not completed, the process will be suspended until after the tournament

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES  RAIL  The Gautrain will be operating between OR Tambo, Johannesburg CBD Sandton during the World Cup and the rest of the routes will be operated by the Gautrain bus services  The rest of Gautrain route will be operational towards the end of 2010  SHOSHOLOZA MEYL  308 scheduled trains will be operated  325 dedicated train services will be made available for the tournament  Economy, Tourist, and Premier Classes will be operational

AVIATION  Important and huge infrastructure projects have been done on the Aviation front  The OR Tambo International Airport was completed and launched by the President recently  The state of the art, King Shaka International Airport was officially opened by the President last week  Cape Town International Airport is completed and can be ranked with the best internationally  In Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth temporary structures will be put in place  The Polokwane airport has been upgraded to deal with the volumes  Additional services will be made available & airports will operate on 24 hr basis

BUS OPERATIONS  Department of Transport has appointed a service provider to administer the procurement, operation, and management of the inter-provincial and regional transport of spectators for the 2010 FIFA World Cup event;  Integrated service provided by both Commuter Busses and Minibus taxi vehicles  To date 520 buses have been delivered and 50 buses will be leased from the industry  Bus drivers have been trained and will be ready before June 11  110 buses will be operated by the entity appointed on the 7 April 2010  The rest of the buses will be operated by FIFA / MATCH

TAXI OPERATIONS  The Taxi industry will be involved in various ways  All the Host Cities have contracted the Taxi industry to provide services  The transport entity will also use taxis for their regional and inter-city operations  Other Provinces such as Limpopo have approached the industry to provide services to their PVAs  Taxi allocations per HC  City of JHB274  City of Tshwane 700  Rustenburg 110  Durban 240

NATIONAL COORDINATION  COMMAND AND CALL CENTRE  The Command Centre will be operational from 1 June 2010  It will operate from Gauteng (Midrand)  Operate 24 hours  Personnel for the call centre have been trained  The centres will operate from 1 June - 31 July 2010

TRANSPORT WEBSITE The Web Portal – “Find Your Way 2010” is currently operational It provide updated traffic and Transport information It will be linked with the Transport Call Centre Fans can plan their trips through the Website It provides real-time route and traffic information on host cities 15
