About Madame Giraudo I teach French Immersion to grades 6, 7, and 8. STUDENT EXPECTATIONS Expectations for my students are clearly stated in my classroom. I encourage students to write assignments and important information in their agendas so as to recall important due dates. My Wiki page is also a reference, however, I encourage use of the agenda as priority. Expectations for homework are that I encourage students to be proactive with their French. Concepts are taught, practiced, and reviewed in class, however, students are encouraged to take it upon themselves to practice their French nightly, whether I assign homework or not. I have a resource page on my Wiki that provides important websites for practice in reading, writing, listening, and grammar. All students have been given text in Language Arts Immersion class or Reading Immersion class. This text should be reviewed nightly so as to make sure comprehension is in check.

Major topics and projects I will cover this year in 8 th grade Immersion. Grammar will be present in all classes so as to improve upon writing and speaking skills. First quarter: 8 th grade students will create a 20-page project for their Exchange trip to Limoges or other trip already taken (for students not participating in the Limoges trip). 8 th grade is also responsible for reading the book, “Un ete pas comme les autres” in conjunction with doing their project. Second quarter: 8 th grade students will work on continuation of their “job unit” started in 7 th grade Immersion. Students will create their curriculum vitae and have a “job interview” with a native or near-native French speaker. Students will use the internet to research Charlotte for French-speaking jobs, and access articles and videos on how and where French is used around the world based on instructional websites providing informative websites. Third quarter: 8 th grade students will read and be exposed to several different types of literature—poetry, short stories, fables, informational text, idioms, problem-solution text, characterization sketches, and modern textbook articles about different topics in French. Fourth quarter: 8 th grade students will prepare for French EOG, 4-part exam: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students will prepare by having access to listening prompts to prep them for the test taking, writing prompts that will assist them with the writing prompts, reading strategies to assist in their reading comprehension, and review and practice on grammatical concepts covered throughout the year. Technology/Chromebooks will be used in my classroom by accessing Google Classroom and implementing Canvas instructional program for student interaction. Students will also use their chromebooks for research and creating documents and/or projects requested by teacher.

First quarter: 7 h grade students will be introduced to classic French literature, by reading “les cinq contes de Guy de Maupassant”. Students have already begun their first story, “Toine” and are working on language arts skills of identifying contradiction and inferencing. Students are also working on vocabulary, and will continue to work through the text for comprehension, character analysis, and key concepts. Students will continue throughout first quarter reading this selected literature. Second quarter: 7 th grade students will work on continuation of their “job unit” started in 6 th grade Immersion. Students will research French-speaking companies in the Charlotte area, and be exposed to how great of a French community we have in Charlotte. Native speakers will be asked to come into the classroom to give presentations on who they are, where they work, and how they came to work in Charlotte while speaking French. Students will research French-speaking companies in Charlotte, using the internet with instructional and informative websites providing accurate information. Students will create a project on the company, using an instructional rubric. Students will present their project to the class, and audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions about the company. Third quarter: 7 th grade students will read and be exposed to several different types of literature—poetry, short stories, fables, informational text, idioms, problem-solution text, characterization sketches, and modern textbook articles about different topics in French. MAJOR TOPICS AND PROJECTS I WILL COVER THIS YEAR IN 6 TH GRADE IMMERSION Grammar will be present in all classes to improve upon writing and speaking skills. First quarter: 6 h grade students will be working through Canadian Legends, using “le fiche enseignant” de TV5, and we are currently working through our first one. Students have been given an informational text on “les Inuits” and worked with geographical information in class to identify where they are from. Students have access to the audio and text on: which they are encouraged to access as often as they need as we work through this story. There are several objectives to work through based on the “fiche enseignant” to address language arts skills. We will work on three different legends. Second quarter: 6 th grade students will work on a “job unit” that will allow students to become aware and understand more about jobs: what they really are, how they impact society, establishing differences between jobs, professions, careers, and why each one is essential to the community. Students will identify different kinds of jobs, so vocabulary will be a focus. Students will also become aware of the many French-speaking jobs that are available here in Charlotte. This is an on-going project, building upon skills and information learned from past years, that will be cultivated throughout 2 nd quarter for 6,7, and 8 grade students. Third quarter: 6 th grade students will read Le Petit Nicolas and do a research project on the Authors of the book. Students will also watch the film to make compare and contrast declarations about what they have read and understood using different medias. Language arts skills will be worked on throughout the duration of our reading this book. Fourth quarter: 6 th grade students will read and be exposed to several different types of literature—poetry, short stories, fables, informational text, idioms, problem-solution text, characterization sketches, and modern textbook articles about different topics in French.
