Classroom Management PBIS – positive behavior interventions and support WAVE – Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Safety Earn money, auctions, lunch party! Camp points & WAVE tickets Students are always given a warning and then asked to lower a clip. Clips can go up, too. Key Pieces: 1) Planner–students fill in daily, check off as homework is completed and parents sign. 2) Homework Folder or 3 Ring Binder 3) Unfinished Work Folder

All students can achieve!

Common Core Common Core standards are the newly adopted standards by 45 states nationwide. They are very similar to our previously existing California State Standards with an increased emphasis on preparing students for college and/or the work place. Problem solving, analysis, and thinking on a deeper level are encouraged more than the rote memorization of facts. For more information, please go to That also means that third graders will be taking a new summative assessment in the spring. It will be new for all of us, so we appreciate your support and patience during this nationwide transition!

Emphasis on non-fiction text (Common Core Standards) Reading Counts – minimum 25 points per trimester: Satisfactory Good 55 + Outstanding Reading Logs- Weekly Reading Lexile between 350 – 800 Lucky book orders are done online; code is on our website ( HCVWX ) Spelling, grammar, and writing all will improve with reading different genres.

Math Houghton Mifflin – Go Math Journals- Explain your thinking/Write about math Performance Tasks Team Problem Solving Challenges Students must know all Addition/Subtraction facts and third grade Multiplication/Division Math tile groups

Social Studies Twice a week for 35 minutes w/ Mrs. K Tests/homework/projects assigned monthly Local community, geography, and history – regions in CA, California Indians Basic structure of U.S. government – rules, laws, economy

Science Twice a month for 60 minutes with Mrs. K or Mrs. Lien Hands-on experiments Textbook Readings 2 nd Grade Pebbles, Sand and Silt; Animal Life Cycles; Simple Machines 3 rd Grade Matter/Energy; Adaptations; Sun and Moon (Vacation to Mars Play)

Health/PE Health-Great Body Shop PE- Daily for 20 minutes Skill lessons that lead up to various games/sports General fitness activities- Running and Stretching Dolphin Games (once a year)

Art & Music Art – Meet the Masters (Need 1-2 volunteers per session) Music: Every other Friday for 40 minutes. Monthly art projects with me.

Homework Monday-Thursday only Please sign planner! 20 minutes reading (minimum) 40 minutes other subjects Unfinished/missing homework No Homework, no signed planner, clip lowered, pay $5.00
