Guidelines 1.CRSS faculty member wishing to make nomination must submit letter and vitae of adjunct candidate to Department Head. Letter must include: 1.Position requested (i.e., research scientist, professor, etc.) 2.Background information on candidate 3.Justification for request (include one or more departmental expectations) 4.Qualifications of candidate 2.Candidate presents seminar to CSS faculty via teleconference (Athens, Tifton, Griffin) 3.Vote of all eligible CSS faculty is taken. 4.Upon a receipt of a positive vote, candidate is requested to submit the following: ____ Appointment Request Form for Faculty Position ____Original transcripts ____Vita ____Three Letters of Recommendation 5.Upon receipt of above documentation, DH will complete the following items and forward the appointment package to the Dean for college approval and forwarding to the Board of Regents for University Approval ____Personnel ____Cover letter from DH to Dean 6.Upon receipt of BOR approval, candidate will be notified giving the beginning date of his/her appointment. NOTE: Appointments that are in progress are reviewed monthly and appropriate persons are notified as to what is still outstanding and the status of the process

Procedure University guidelines require all adjunct faculty be reviewed every three years. Original nominator will submit to the department head adjunct faculty’s vita along with a letter outlining contributions to the department and justifying continuation of the appointment. Vita will be forwarded to eligible faculty for review and vote. Review of Presently Appointed Adjuncts In progress using guidelines

Policy Courses offered both traditionally and through distance education by tenure faculty handled at his/her discretion New distance education courses approved through the normal academic process Distance education courses offered by non UGA or retired UGA faculty must be approved by the faculty (curriculum committee and department head) and the course reviewed through the peer review process A non-departmental instructor must have adjunct status in the department For graduate-level courses, the faculty member must have graduate faculty status

Required to teach advanced-level ( ) graduate courses No longer renewed at the graduate school level Review to be determined by faculty at program, departmental or college level Graduate faculty status is automatically requested at time of hire Graduate faculty status may be removed upon: “failure to fulfill the responsibilities of the graduate faculty member to teach graduate students effectively, in a civil, professionally appropriate manner, to do scholarship research and creative work of high quality, and to direct the research of graduate students so that the progress toward graduation in a timely manner appropriate to the field. This includes, but is not limited to, abuse of power, intimidation and harassment, and violation of workplace violence policies.”
