ELISA Testing

What is ELISA Technology? Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbant Assay

ELISA Testing What is the between Antigen and Antibody testing? Which does an ELISA test use? BOTH

The Assay ELISA assays use antibodies that are covalently linked ("conjugated") to enzymes. Antigen is bound to a plastic well, and enzyme-linked antibody is bound to the antigen. Unbound antibody is rinsed away. The amount of enzyme remaining, and hence the amount of antibody bound, is reported by adding a substrate that changes color when acted upon by the enzyme. The absorbance of the resulting color is proportional to the amount of enzyme bound to the well, hence to the amount of antibody, hence to the amount of antigen. Thus, color reports antigen, quantitatively.

ELISA Testing Well Tests – Commercial laboratory settings. –Handle large amount of samples –Lower cost –Labor intensive

ELISA Testing Well Testing –Heartworm Wells (IDEXX, Synbiotic) –Feline Leukemia (Labs) –HIV –Immunology –Seed Purity

ELISA Testing Rapid Assays – In-clinic or patient side testing –Immediate results –Fewer steps –Higher cost

ELISA Testing Rapid Assays –Heartworm –FeLV/FIV –Parvo –Pregnancy
