How are you jump-starting the Common Core conversation with your customers? Where is your district along its timeline to implement the CCSS? The customer’s answer tells me a lot about how much they understand the new standards and how far along they are toward implementing them. It also gives me some clues as to how we might help them. What is the district doing to prepare for the CCSS assessments? If customers tell me they’re waiting until September 2014 when the new summative assessments roll out for the first time, that tells me they really don’t have a firm understanding of the impact those assessments should have on classroom instruction. If they tell me they’re starting to pilot new assessment types, well, that indicates they’re pretty knowledgeable. If they’re uncertain, I suggest our Leading the Way Assessment workshop as a good way to get informed. What are you doing to get your teachers ready for the CCSS? Their response can lead to an understanding of their implementation plan, their training needs, whether they’re training their teachers on their own etc. All good info.
