Central & Northern Region Area Population Age 65+ The 65+ population will increase significantly by 2030 and at a much higher rate than the state of WI average.

Larger concentration of older population in Northern WI counties – 2005 vs 2025

Central & Northern Region Counties are poorer than average The bulk of lower-income Wisconsinites reside in rural counties that are typically either dominated by farming or by tourism, forests, and lakes. While the Wisconsin median stands at 26.6%, these rural counties are experiencing poverty rates in the mid to upper 30s%.
