A LITTLE ABOUT PIPA The PROTECT IP Act gives government authority and enforcement against rogue websites operated and registered overseas. The bill was proposed on May 12 th, 2011 by Senator Patrick Leahy and… It gives government the power to BLOCK infringing domain names, SUE US based search engines for displaying links to infringing websites, and also DECLINE any payment to those rogue websites.

WHAT COULD HAPPEN? ANY user posting an infringing video can have the entire website be BLOCKED YOUTUBE FACEBOOK Posting a copyrighted picture/video can have then entire website be BLOCKED PERSONAL WEBSITES Taking a copyrighted article can have your website TAKEN DOWN!

AS A RESULT… People will be less likely to post content due to legal RISKS LIMITING FREEDOM OF SPEECH INTERNET INVESTMENTS Reduce the amount of investment into the internet DESTRUCTION OF INFORMATION By censorship, millions of terabytes of FREE and easy-to-access information are lost and destroyed

PROTESTS THOUSANDS of videos regarding SOPA and PIPA are uploaded by users YOUTUBE WIKIPEDIA Blacked out Wikipedia on January 18 th, 2012 causing 10 cosponsors to withdraw FORUMS/OTHER WEBSITES Websites like Reddit and other internet forums sparked one of the biggest internet censorship protest movement in history
