Presentation transcript:

Warmup:  1) Find your notebook.  2) Today’s title – “The Big Three – Energy Flows.”  3) Write – “Examples of Energy.” From the list below, copy down which are examples of energy. If it is not an example, don’t write it down.  MusicHamburgerSnowOxygenLightening  ThunderFirewoodExplosionToyHeat  LoveGiraffeSunlightComputerTrain  ElectricityPersonDogCoalTelevision

Learning Target:  I will do a closing project demonstrating my knowledge of “Energy Flows.”

Announcements: Winner of the first two truths and a lie tournament – Cheyenne Look for a science fair project Vocabulary goes at the end of the notebook. NOTECARDS!

Science Dictionary – at the end of the notebook – first four prefixes PrefixMeaningExampleDefiniton BiTwoBilingualSpeaks two languages AeroAirAerobicExercise what causes you to breath fast AutoSelfAutomaticChanges gears without your help BioLifeBiologyThe study of life

In your notebook:  Energy is ___________________________  ( We learn by making mistakes!)

Energy is constantly changing forms.  Sunlight to plants to food to running.  Battery to light.  Wind to generator to electricity.  Sound to make an avalanche.

Activity – in table groups.  1) Will be done outside.  2) We will line up.  3) You will be give a container filled to the top with water.  4) Race to the tree.  5) Pour your water into the other container.  6) Return. Pour again.  7) Hand to partner.

The water in your activity represents energy.  Every time you change flasks, it is changing forms.  Observations during activity:  Is there any way you could prevent this from happening?  Is the water gone?  What happened to it?

For your notebooks:  Energy Flows: Energy is constantly changing forms. As it does, the amount of usable or useful energy decreases as heat floats off into the air.  THIS GOES IN YOUR NOTEBOOKS!

Demonstrate your knowledge of Energy Flows  Bumper Sticker  Haiku  Tattoo
