Poverty By Kyle Jester & Keyli Mazariegos-Diaz

Letter Dear Senator Coon, Poverty is a big issue in America today although America is the world’s wealthiest nation. And because of this so many people are struggling to live and so many deaths are occurring every day and year. Most of them are women and children. Did you know that those who are in poverty have a lower life expectancy? Even before the Industrial Revolution this was already known. What’s really sad is that many children living in poverty die before their fifth birthday and malnutrition is a big factor to this. They don’t even get to live their lives. But there are many solutions to reducing this problem. One thing that could be done to help reduce this is by having an extent in property rights and protection to the poor. Meaning that maybe you could increase land rights to those who really need it. If that’s done then those people could grow their own crops and have food for them. Another thing that’s really common here is giving food donations to the poor. Maybe there could be more food drives held. But one thing that has really caught attention (or at least mine) is providing jobs and giving a tax break for the people who have been hired. With the economy right now and the increase in people without jobs, people need jobs and it would be a good thing if companies started to hire again. Also maybe the people who don’t make much money in their jobs could get a higher salary, just to make them get out of their possibility of being in poverty or if they’re already in that then they could get out of it. Or maybe expand the Earned Income Tax Credit and have more nutrition programs. Now there are many more solutions to this problem which is a big issue. Please, could you just please try to do something to make the number of people here in poverty reduce. Also if you could give us a response back at Sincerely, Students from Seaford Middle School

Problem Poverty has become a huge problem for people in America today. Even though there are a lot of ways to help end poverty, not enough people try to help. We are trying to find a way to help those people in a small way, but can affect them largely.

Solution Our proposal to help people in poverty is to provide child care for them and also to find them jobs and maybe raise their salary for a certain amount of time. Even though it seems like two small ideas it would really affect the lives of these people.
